Moon in Aries

With the Full Moon in Aries today, I'm thinking about how the fiery qualities of Aries blend into the nurturing, mellow, caring Moon. The truth is: not very well.

Mellow Moon...
The Moon symbolizes many things, on many levels. The Moon is instinct, the past, emotion. As a symbol, she is subtle, varied, and multi-layered. In a birth chart, she represents how the native views his or her mother. She indicates what instincts the native has. The Moon describes a person's innate emotional nature. She also is the passive drawing power a person has. The Moon shows nurturing style and what kind of stress-monster one becomes when pushed.

...pure fire...
In Aries, the fire element is all about a single identity and unadulterated will. Strangely, this simplicity does not always makes Aries a blunt instrument. Aries is the sign of the warrior, but fighting is not the objective, just the side-effect. Aries knows what it is, what it wants, and is on a path to getting it. The world being what it is, making it all happen directly will involve conflict.

That's really the root of the challenge in folding in the Moon with such a sign. The pacifist Moon is not at ease wearing the red flag of Aries. Whether speaking about the transiting Moon or one in a birth chart, Aries qualities take the place of what would otherwise be rather timid.

...hello feisty.
So, Moon in Aries by transit means we're all a little more direct. As Aries is the sign representing beginnings, we start things during this transit. This translates to some faster driving on the roadways, more assertion during meetings, and more sex, for a few examples. Taking this to the personal level, in a birth chart it is much the same.

Bold Femininity
Someone with natal Moon in Aries has immediate and passionate responses to things. They nurture themselves with contests and competition (on a spectrum from blunt to subtle), with action, and with being direct. They need a lot of "me" time to feel secure. Their mothers were the same way. At least, that's how the child viewed the mother. Growing up, he or she was taught by Mom that taking care of him-or herself was okay, even important. The feminine side is a little more assertive, more in control, more sure of itself.
